“My husband and I very much enjoyed working with Kevin. He took time to make sure that he understood our home, lifestyle and preferences. We were very happy with his suggestions and the opportunities he opened up for us in our home. We liked his pricing approach and felt it to be fair and a good value. His work was delivered on time and he was there for us throughout the project, even with extra information on things such as knobs, lights and so on. He clearly has a passion for his work, which we appreciated.”

Renovating and expanding a 1750s saltbox home might be a hurdle to some, but Kevin Latady embraces challenges and worked closely with the homeowners to honor and maintain the home’s original historic character and aesthetic. Incorporating existing structural materials, and preserving the “look” of the saltbox roof line, were crucial—even while creating a dormer addition in back. We also remodeled the kitchen to create efficient and contemporary space for cooking and entertaining, while maintaining the feel and fit of the older home. Our new in-law suite incorporates barrier-free and accessible living for the owners’ aging parents. A special addition: we used hand hewn rafters as collar tie beams in the new bedrooms, giving the appearance the structure was from the 19th century, and our work opened up and exposed the original beams. We also brought in a landscape architect to deal with drainage issues with water run-off from the street. Unique fun features include converting an old second floor storage area behind the chimney into a reading “nook” for the children, a built-in storage area in the back hallway complete with a special out-of-the-way area for the cat’s litter box, and incorporating the old well cover into the lovely, landscaped yard.
